Apparat – Hum Of Maybe

Berlin electronic producer Apparat (Sascha Ring) shares “Hum Of Maybe,” the title track from his sixth studio album, out February 20 via Mute. The song arrives after a six-year gap since 2019’s “LP5,” a period marked by extended writer’s block that Ring eventually broke by producing one song idea per day for over six months in 2025.

The track builds tension through siren-like sounds, acoustic guitar, and a motorik drum pattern before opening into lighter vocal textures in the chorus. Ring describes it as the experience of being trapped inside your head: “Rooms felt too small, time folded in strange ways, and every sound seemed to hum with doubt.”

“A Hum Of Maybe” examines love in its various forms and the instability of maintaining those bonds. Ring frames the title as existing in states of uncertainty rather than certainty. “It’s a maybe that is not weakness, but a space where things can grow,” he explains. The album’s eleven tracks explore simultaneity and intermediate conditions rather than binary outcomes.

Ring worked with longtime musicians from his live band: Philipp Johann Thimm (cello, piano, guitar, co-writer and co-producer), Christoph “Mäckie” Hamann (violin, keyboards, bass), Jörg Wähner (drums), and Christian Kohlhaas (trombone). Guests include KÁRYYN on vocals for “Tilth” and Jan-Philipp Lorenz (Bi Disc) on “Pieces, Falling.”

Apparat will support the album with an extensive European tour starting late January, including a sold-out show at Berlin’s Huxleys on January 31.
